After finishing my first semester of teaching, I did some traveling with my friend Jess. We spent one week in Cambodia. Our first stop was in Siem Reap, a small touristy town where the Angkor Wat temple is located. I was amazed at how easy it was to get from place to place. Everyone spoke such good English and also used US dollars. Jess started to say that it "burned" more usuing US dollars "because in Laos, when you use the Lao Kip, you convert. In converting you lose track of how much you're spending. Now that we are using USD, it just feels like it burns more because you know how much yoiu're really spending." I completely agree though things were cheaper in Cambodia. A tuk tuk ride was $2 total (where in Laos we usually pay $2 per person). A meal was between $2-5 and souveniors were $3-5 a piece.
We spent 3 days in the beautiful town of Siem Reap. We saw Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom temples, the floating villages, and visited many local NGOs/Fair Trade organizations to learn about their work. We then moved to Phnom Pehn, the capital city, for the remaining 4 days.
